E. Viganò, La prudenza come superamento dell’individualismo e dell’egoismo nel soggetto di Adam Smith

Abstract

Contrariamente all’interpretazione tradizionale di Adam Smith, nel soggetto smithiano coesistono coerentemente valori morali e interessi economici. Il perno dell’unità di tale soggetto risiede nella virtù della prudenza. Questa virtù, concepita come il perseguimento degli interessi personali che lo spettatore imparziale ha approvato e considerata congiuntamente al processo di maturazione morale individuale, è la guida che il soggetto adotta nella determinazione di ciò che deve a se stesso e ciò che deve agli altri all’interno del proprio personale progetto di vita.

Abstract (english)

Contrary to the traditional interpretation of Adam Smith, moral values and economic interests coexist consistently in the Smithian subject. At the basis of this subject’s unity there is the virtue of prudence, which is the pursuit of personal interests that have been approved of by the impartial spectator. This form of excellence, together with the individual’s moral maturation, guides the subject in the determination of what she owes to herself and what she owes to others within her personal plan of life.
