Alessandro Pinzani, Liberté, inégalite, égoïsme. Distrust and lack of solidarity as threats to contemporary democracy

Abstract

La perdita di fiducia nelle istituzioni politiche in generale e in quelle democratiche in particolare è da tempo oggetto di studio. Le teorie che cercano di spiegare questo fenomeno possono essere suddivise in due grandi categorie, a seconda della prospettiva adottata: possono essere storiche o sistemiche. L’articolo esamina brevemente questi due approcci prima di proporre una strategia esplicativa che cerca di combinarli e, allo stesso tempo, di unire filosofia e sociologia. Nel farlo, si farà riferimento alla Filosofia del diritto di Hegel e alla concezione della relazione tra individuo e comunità politica difesa dal filosofo tedesco.

Abstract (english)

The loss of trust in political institutions in general and in democratic institutions, in particular, has long been an object of study. Theories that seek to explain this phenomenon can be divided into two broad categories, depending on the perspective they take: historical or systemic. The paper briefly examines these two approaches before proposing an explanatory strategy that seeks to combine them and, at the same time, combine philosophy and sociology. In doing so, it will recur to Hegel’s Philosophy of Right and to the conception of the relation between individual and political community defended by the German philosopher.
