G. Pellegrino, Il futuro delle persone e il futuro dell’umanità: principi e teorie

Abstract

Quest’articolo si concentra sui principi che possono rendere conto di due obiettivi: garantire la sopravvivenza dell’umanità nel futuro e assicurare una qualità della vita migliore possibile per le persone che vivranno nel futuro. La conclusione generale raggiunta è che i principi apparentemente più plausibili non sono sostenuti da ragioni convincenti. Per quanto sembri chiaro che dovremmo evitare, o posticipare il più possibile, l’estinzione della specie umana e non danneggiare le generazioni future, le ragioni per cui dovremmo farlo sono tutt’altro che chiare.

Abstract (english)

This article focuses on principles that can account for two objectives: ensuring the survival of humanity in the future and ensuring the best possible quality of life for future persons. The general conclusion of the paper is that there are no convincing reasons in support of the seemingly most plausible principles. Although it seems clear that we should avoid, or postpone as much as possible, the extinction of the human species and not harm future generations, the reasons why we should do so are far from clear.
