Abstract

La repentina avanzata e la successiva sorprendente resistenza dello Stato islamico ha messo in evidenza la debolezza degli stati della regione e, più in generale, ha mostrato l’esistenza di un terreno favorevole alla radicalizzazione jihadista. Osservando da vicino la storia recente dell’Iraq, emerge con evidenza l’incapacità dell’autorità politica a offrire risposte convincenti alle richieste della popolazione, lasciando così il campo libero all’azione di leader religiosi di varia affiliazione. La contrapposizione fra i paesi confinanti e gli inconciliabili interessi delle potenze straniere hanno fatto il resto nel favorire l’affermazione di Daesh e la sua capacità di supportare il terrorismo internazionale. La parabola storica dello stato islamico suggerisce la necessità di un ripensamento profondo della prospettiva secolarista adottata dall’Occidente nei confronti del mondo islamico e dovrebbe portare a un ripensamento delle forme della convivenza politica nei paesi arabi.

Abstract (english)

The sudden advance and the subsequent surprising resistance of the Islamic State has highlighted the weakness of the states of the region and, more generally, showed the existence of a terrain favorable to jihadist radicalization. Looking closely at the recent history of Iraq, the inability of the political authority to offer convincing answers to the demands of the population clearly emerges, thus leaving the field open to the action of religious leaders of various affiliation. The contrast between the neighboring countries and the irreconcilable interests of the foreign powers did the rest in favoring the affirmation of Daesh and its capacity to support international terrorism. The historical parable of the Islamic state suggests the need for a profound rethinking of the secularist perspective adopted by the West towards the Islamic world and should lead to a rethinking of the forms of political coexistence in the Arab countries.
