S. Racca, Dagli immaginari sociali alla società civile: le pratiche filosofiche e la comunità di ricerca tra Castoriadis, Taylor e Lipman

Abstract

La Philosophy for Community (P4C), erede e rielaborazione della Philosophy for Children di Matthew Lipman, è pratica filosofica che trova il proprio luogo di svolgimento in specifiche “comunità di ricerca”. Nel mio contributo intendo proporre un possibile modello esplicativo per tale idea di comunità e per la specifica forma che essa imprime alla pratica filosofica: per fare questo, mostrerò i punti di contatto tra il pensiero di Lipman e le filosofie di Charles Taylor e Cornelius Castoriadis, con riferimento alla dimensione multicognitiva lipmaniana e al concetto di immaginario sociale. Da una parte sottolineerò l’importanza, per il modello sociale ricercato, della dimensione cognitiva critica e di quella creativa descritte da Lipman, mettendole in connessione con la dialettica comunitaria tra pratiche collettive condivise e spinte al mutamento sociale. Dall’altra, mostrerò quanto questi primi elementi debbano tuttavia essere necessariamente integrati, indicando lo specifico della “comunità di ricerca” nelle idee di società civile e caring normativo: un quadro, questo, in cui la P4C si declina infine come presa in carico del legame sociale da parte di settori non politico-istituzionali della vita associata.

Abstract (english)

Philosophy for Community – at the same time an heir and a re-elaborated version of Matthew Lipman’s Philosophy for Children – represents a philosophical practice which develops itself within specific “communities of inquiry”. In this paper, the model I want to propose explains both this idea of community and its influence on the very philosophical practice. For this purpose, I will highlight the traits shared by Matthew Lipman’s thinking and by the reflections of Charles Taylor and Cornelius Castoriadis, especially focusing on the concepts of multidimensional thinking and social imaginary. On the one hand, I will show the importance of the critical thinking and of the creative thinking, described by Lipman, for my model: more specifically, I will link these ideas to the dialectic between shared collective practices and pushes for social change. On the other hand, I will suggest the necessity of an integration of these elements, showing how the peculiarity of this “community of inquiry” lies in the normative dimension of lipmanian caring thinking and in the taylorian idea of civil society. The model here proposed thus tries to define P4C as an effort made by non-political, non-institutional actors of social life in order to take care of the public sphere.
